home improvement files: backyard lighting

as cody began working again today, i reminisced over the past month that we have been able to spend so much time together and take care of some stuff around the house.
cody was a trooper and spent 2 days completely re-doing the landscape lighting in our backyard.
we are so happy with how it turned out! unfortunately i havent gotten around to taking a picture of everything lit up at night...i had better get busy on that!

anyways, our backyard spent some time looking like a gopher had made his way around the lawn.
{had to do a 'before' shot to compare with when the plants all come back to life the 'after' shot of everything lit up at night.

see those red triangles at the bottom? that means my boots came out so i was ready to work and help shovel dirt back into the gopher ditches.

i love my hard working man!

'after' shot...still during the day, yes i know but at least there are no ditches in sight!

cody cartwheeled for joy...literally.

we decided to celebrate our new lighting by having a bonfire that same night...let's just say i love a man in boots...and basketball shorts.

this is my photo that shows how happy my home is now that there is a real curtain rod and real curtains over our back door...unlike the previous sheet that was hung by being stapled to the top of the moulding.
oh, and remember that dining room wall that i had no ideas for? well, i still dont. but i did find a good temporary filler. my dad had some old bronze colored wood frames above his stairwell that he didnt want anymore, so i asked if i could have them. i wasnt sure what kind of art to put in the frames and i wasnt ready to commit to buying anything so i filled them with some scrap fabric.
dad's old frames + a coat of black spray paint + fabric i already had = totally free and stylish temporary wall filler art.

these next photos are just recent ones from when cody was messing with the settings on our camera but i'm putting them in to display the aaawwwffuulll color of our cabinets.

and apparently, the awful plethora of red cups that we have near our refrigerator.

i've been eyeing this color for the past few months. i've had the paint chip sitting on the kitchen counter to see if i'd like the color against our said awful cabinets. i finally took a mini plunge today and bought a sample of the paint. turns out, i like the color by itself...but not for our kitchen. wah wah!! i like the gray that we already have but it is pretty blah since our appliances are stainless and our countertops are basically black.
oh well, maybe i can convince cody to let me paint our hall bathroom this shade of split pea/mustardy goodness that i already know he hates ::fingers crossed for future paint projects::

anybody else out there have the same color cabinets?
what color did you paint your kitchen??

  1. I think a charcoal gray would look good on them and be enough of a contrast between the stailness steel. And good luck with the wall color :)
