home improvement files: indoor lighting

since painting our fabulous stripe wall, cody decided he wanted to paint our family room ceiling fan black to match better. i whined for like 10 minutes about how much i liked the bronzey color that it was but decided to be a good wife instead. 5 minutes later, the fan came down.

i decided if there was going to be some painting going on the next day that i would finally tackle the super unattractive 'chandelier' that hangs over our kitchen table as well.

home projects get me so excited i just had to celebrate with smoothies. i know, i know. weird.

BEFORE: our living area with no ceiling fan and no light over the kitchen table.

cody working on organizing all the pieces of the fan to be painted. notice the smoothie power on the treadmill in the background...
note to self: use treadmill.

also on home improvement saturday, we (when i say 'we' i mean cody) replaced our badger. at least that is the name of our garbage disposal brand so instead of saying, "honey, the disposal is broken again!" we say, "dear, the badger is bwoken!" (because around here we like to talk like toddlers.)

why did i even bother with the cardboard? i still got spray paint all over the lawn.

looking even more hideous than it began...

so while we were at lowes for some other things, we happened upon a new chandelier. but then we hung it and decided it was way to high up and wasnt as cool as we thought it was going to be.

so we took down the first chandelier, boxed it back up and exchanged it for this one.
our new wagon wheel as cody likes to call it.
much better.

AFTER: and finally, the completed fixtures for the living area.

now i just have to convince cody that all of the other ceiling fans dont need to be black.

**and if anyone out there has any ideas as to how we can decorate that big, blank wall behind our kitchen table, please share!! we are kind of dying over here about it (when i say we, i mean me)

  2. You could make a mantle like we're making for our dining room? Tyler is making it this week so when it's finished you can check it out and see if you'd like it for your room. Then you could add some greenery or a floral arrangement with some pictures or something? Just an idea. I totally know what it's like to have those spaces that drive you crazy! If you want to come over this week I am sewing curtains and bed skirts, painting shelfs, and hanging pictures! :-)
